Welcome to Music at Cottonwood!
I am your music teacher, DeeAnn Freeman. I have been teaching elementary music for a long time and have been teaching in the Andover School District since 2005 when my family returned to Kansas after living in Illinois.
All Cottonwood students attend a CORE class each school day. CORE classes include Art, Music and PE. Thus students attend each CORE class every third day. Check the music schedule for the exact time your childs grade level is in music.
We have a lot of fun in music! Classes regularly include singing, moving, playing and listening to all kinds of music. Cottonwood has a full set of Orff instruments (xylophones, metallophones & glockenspiel), a set of World Drums and many small unpitched percussion instruments. Everyone has a chance to play instruments regularly.
Students are exposed to a variety of music styles in class and are introduced to traditional music notation. Fourth grade students put their music reading skills to work through a semester of recorder playing. Recorder Karate motivates students to earn “belts” for their recorder by learning to play music from notation.
Parents are welcome to attend music classes at any time.
